Šta pod tim smatram imam jednu WS HP XW - 9400 sa dva cpu opterona u njemu 2x4 jezgra i ravno 12 Gb sistemskog rama.

Audacity 3.4 Released with New Music Workflows, Time Stretch Tool.

A brand new version of Audacity, the open-source audio workstation, has been released.

Audacity 3.4 includes a number of new features and improvements, include new music workflows that will greatly enhance the editor’s appeal with musicians.

One of the biggest new features in Audacity 3.4 is a new Beat and Measures grid. This new view makes it easier to align clips to a project’s tempo and rhythm, with options to show subdivisions, and snap clips to the nearest beat.

Also included is a new Time Stretch tool. This makes it a breeze to change the duration of an audio clip without affecting the pitch (which most traditional time stretch tools do). It does this using a new algorithm ‘specifically made for music’ which, the project says, outperforms commercial options.

Finally, there’s a new exporter view that groups together all options into a single window, no need to pop up different dialogs to adjust things first. Audacity say “the exporter now features the native file browser, giving you access to all your bookmarked folders”.

  • For MP3, Audacity now always uses Joint Stereo mode
  • Spectrogram colors are now perceptually uniform
  • Simplified pasting logic
  • Stereo tracks now always have synchronized clip starts/ends
  • Project sample rate no longer changes when importing audio
  • Time Signature toolbar now displays by default
  • Solo button is set to multi-track mode by default
  • Time tracks have a wider starting range by default
  • Clips no longer merge when clicking on the border between them
  • Opus support
Overall, Audacity 3.4 sounds like a significant upgrade, making one of the best free audio editors available even better.

Audacity 3.4 is free, open-source software available for Linux, Windows, and macOS. You can download the latest release from the Audacity website.

Linux 6.7 MMC To See Up To 45% Better 4K Random Write Performance

The MMC memory card updates for the Linux 6.7 kernel have been submitted for Linux 6.7 that includes new hardware support as well as a core MMC optimization to enhance the performance in some scenarios.

Most exciting with the MMC code changes is improving the random I/O write performance for 4K buffers for HSQ (Host Software Queue) hosts. The change by Unisoc's Wenchao Chen is summed up as:
"By dynamically adjusting the host->hsq_depth, based upon the buffer size being 4k and that we get at least two I/O write requests in flight, we can improve the throughput a bit. This is typical for a random I/O write pattern.

More precisely, by dynamically changing the number of requests in flight from 2 to 5, we can on some platforms observe ~4-5% increase in throughput."

A broad 45% performance improvement for MMC with 4K random writes via just 26 lines of new code to the core MMC host code isn't bad at all.

The MMC core code also now allows host caps (capabilities) to be modified via DebugFS for scenarions such as testing different MMC speed modes. More details on all of the MMC changes for Linux 6.7.

NVIDIA Linux Driver Adds Support for Night Light in Wayland.

NVIDIA has released a new version of its Linux graphics driver that adds support for the Night Light feature in GNOME on Wayland.

Night Light is a feature that reduces the amount of blue light emitted from your display. This, studies show, can help to improve sleep quality, and reduce eye fatigue. Most Linux distributions shipping GNOME (including Ubuntu) support the feature, but it seems not all graphics drivers do.

Or did, I should say.

The Linux x64 NVIDIA Display Driver 545.29.02 release notes mention various Wayland-related improvements (and much needed they are too, from what I hear) including support for virtual reality displays, support for running in XWayland, and a bug fix which prevented Variable Refresh Rate from working.

But pertinent to this post is “support for the CTM, DEGAMMA_LUT, and GAMMA_LUT DRM-KMS CRTC properties. These are used by features such as the “Night Light” feature in GNOME and the “Night Color” feature in KDE, when they are used as Wayland compositors.”

Sounds like Night Light on NVIDIA systems will “just work” under the standard Ubuntu Wayland session (assuming you have the feature turned on, of course).

In addition to this and other Wayland buffs, NVIDIA’s latest Linux driver (naturally) features more bug fixes and performance improvements. For more information, see the NVIDIA driver release notes I linked to a few paragraphs up.

I don’t own any devices equipped with NVIDIA (it’s been about a decade since I did) so I can’t offer much guidance about “how to” get the new driver on Ubuntu, but version 545.29.02 is available for download from the NVIDIA website and that does have instructions on how to install it on Linux in general.

The Best Wallpaper Changer Extension for Ubuntu.

Looking for an easy-to-use desktop wallpaper slideshow tool for Ubuntu?

The distro doesn’t have a feature to automatically change the desktop background built-in. And while changing your wallpaper manually isn’t hard, I often suffer choice paralysis when trying to decide which picture to set!

Using a desktop wallpaper changer is a great way to keep your desktop fresh and interesting, show off your personality, and even make you more productive (yes, there are studies looking at this). Such tools automatically cycle through images on your computer or from online sources.

Lots of Linux wallpaper changer apps exist, with Variety being the best known.

But you don’t need a full-blown app; the Wallpaper Slideshow GNOME extension is every bit as good.

You just point the extension at a folder full of pictures, set a slideshow duration (i.e. the amount of time before the desktop background changes), and …No; that’s all you need to do!

Slide duration is configurable in hours, minutes, and seconds (though resist the urge to make the wallpaper change ever second as in my testing, it caused the desktop to freeze. Plus, it’d also be trippy as heck).

If you don’t have many decent or high-quality wallpapers to choose from, don’t panic.

Wallpaper Slideshow boasts Bing integration too. When enabled, this downloads a bunch of recent ‘Bing picture of the day’ to a folder on your computer. You then set this folder as the source for the slideshow in the extension settings and, bing! – it does its thing.

Whether you choose a folder filled with images you love or trust the canny-eyed curators working at Bing do it for you, this extension allows you to enjoy a constant cycle of interesting images on your desktop, ensuring you’ve always got something nice to gawp at.

Install Wallpaper Slideshow on Ubuntu

So that’s what the Wallpaper Slideshow GNOME extension is, and what it does – but how do you install it on Ubuntu?

You can install GNOME extensions using a web browser – but honestly, don’t bother.

Instead, install the Extensions Manager app. This is available in Ubuntu Software (and the new App Center in Ubuntu 23.10 but remember to filter for Debian packages when searching). If you have Flatpak setup, may prefer to get it from Flathub instead.

Once installed, open Extensions Manager, select the ‘Browse’ tab, and search for “wallpaper slideshow”. Locate the one made by andrew_z and hit the install button:
Installation happens pretty quickly, and the extension is auto-enabled on install.

Switch to the “Installed” tab and click on the cog icon next to the Wallpaper Slideshow entry. A dialog appears. Click the folder icon next to ‘slideshow directory’ to point the extension at a stash of wallpapers (or enable Bing downloads). Finally, set a slide duration.

That’s it; enjoy as your desktop background automatically changes without you needing to do a thing.

In all, Wallpaper Slideshow is excellent, easy-to-use wallpaper changer, switcher, shuffler – whatever you want to call it – for Ubuntu 23.04 or later, as well as other Linux distros using GNOME Shell. A must-have for fans of desktop customisation.
