This credit card-sized Mini PC can run Steam OS just like the Steam deck! powered by the AMD Ryzen Embedded R2514 APU. This makes it one of the most powerful SBCs on the market, and it's even powerful enough to run SteamOS or CZhimera OS for Linux gaming. The Ryzen Embedded R2514 APU features 4 cores and 8 threads, running at up to 3.7GHz. It also has a built-in Vega 8 GPU, which can run most modern games at playable frame rates. DFI PCSF51 AMD Ryzen R2000 SBC. With The AMD® Ryzen™ Embedded R2514 APU this is a very powerful credit card sized Single board computer.

No kako sam ga instalirao

LibreOffice 7.5.8 Is Here as the Last Update in the Series, Upgrade to LibreOffice 7.6 Now!!!

he Document Foundation announced today LibreOffice 7.5.8 as the eighth and last maintenance update for the LibreOffice 7.5 series of this open-source, cross-platform, and free office suite.

LibreOffice 7.5.8 is here one and a half months after LibreOffice 7.5.7, which was an emergency, unscheduled update that addressed a security vulnerability in the WebP codec. LibreOffice 7.5.8 contains a total of 21 bug fixes, according to the RC1 and RC2 changelogs, to make the LibreOffice 7.5 series more stable and reliable.

However, this is the last planned update to the LibreOffice 7.5 series, which will reach end of life on November 30th, 2024. If you’re still using LibreOffice 7.5, you should consider updating your installation to the latest LibreOffice 7.6 series. At the moment of writing, the latest version is LibreOffice 7.6.2.

“With this release, the LibreOffice 7.5 line is reaching the end of its life, so users should plan the update to LibreOffice 7.6 as soon as the next minor update LibreOffice 7.6.3 will be released in mid-November. At that time, LibreOffice 7.6 will have been tested and sought after enough to be ready for all production environments,” said The Document Foundation.
LibreOffice 7.6 arrived in early August 2023 as a major release introducing new features like support for zoom gestures on touchpads in the main view, support for document themes, along with the ability to import and export theme definitions for ODF and OOXML documents, as well as many improvements to font handling.

If you can’t upgrade to LibreOffice 7.6, you can download the LibreOffice 7.5.8 update right now from the official website, where you’ll find binary installers for DEB or RPM-based GNU/Linux distributions, as well as a source tarball if you’re a system integrator shipping LibreOffice in your distro.

Of course, if you’re distro is already shipping the LibreOffice 7.6 office suite, you should update to the latest version from the stable software repositories. LibreOffice 7.6 will be supported until June 12th, 2024.

Brave responds to Bing and ChatGPT with a new ‘anonymous and secure’ AI chatbot.

Brave, the privacy-focused browser that automatically blocks unwanted ads and trackers, is rolling out Leo — a native AI assistant that the company claims provides “unparalleled privacy” compared to some other AI chatbot services. Following several months of testing, Leo is now available to use for free by all Brave desktop users running version 1.60 of the web browser. Leo is rolling out “in phases over the next few days” and will be available on Android and iOS “in the coming months.”
The core features of Leo aren’t too dissimilar from other AI chatbots like Bing Chat and Google Bard: it can translate, answer questions, summarize webpages, and generate new content. Brave says the benefits of Leo over those offerings are that it aligns with the company’s focus on privacy — conversations with the chatbot are not recorded or used to train AI models, and no login information is required to use it. As with other AI chatbots, however, Brave claims Leo’s outputs should be “treated with care for potential inaccuracies or errors.”

The standard version of Leo utilizes Meta’s Llama 2 large language model and is free to use by default. For users who prefer to access a different AI language model, Brave is also introducing Leo Premium, a $15 monthly subscription that features Anthropic’s AI assistant, Claude Instant — a faster and cheaper version of Anthropic’s Claude 2 large language model.
“AI can be a powerful tool but it can also present growing concerns for data privacy and there’s a need for a privacy-first solution,” said Brian Bondy, CTO and co-founder of Brave, in a press release. “Brave is committed to pairing AI with user privacy, and will provide our users with secure and personalized AI assistance where they already spend their time online.”
Brave says that additional models will be available to Leo Premium users alongside access to higher-quality conversations, priority queuing during peak usage, higher rate limits, and early access to new features. In a statement to The Verge, Brian Bondy, CTO and co-founder of Brave said that “Leo is built in a way that many different models can be plugged into the feature. We believe that more models will be offered over time and that users should be able to choose among them.”

Static Linux

Statically linked Linux distribution.

Linux distribution is based on the Alpine Linux, musl libc and BusyBox.

It comes with Labwc Wayland Compositor, CoreFM, CoreImage, CorePad, CoreTerminal, mpv and data recovery tools (ddrescue, testdisk, photorec).

Kernel and the root filesystem are assembled in a single file to boot on systems with UEFI (Secure Boot is not supported).

For installation download bootx64.efi (84Mb, Kernel 6.1.60) and place it on a FAT32-formatted disk (X:/efi/boot/bootx64.efi).

It's planned to statically link as many packages as possible. At the current stage compiled 267 packages. Documentation and apk build scripts are located in /home/user/static

Raspberry Pi 5 Benchmarks: Significantly Better Performance, Improved I/O.

After a difficult few years of global supply chain woes leading to limited available and heightened retail pricing on the Raspberry Pi single board computers, today there is finally an update to the family. Four years after the Raspberry Pi 4 shipped, today the Raspberry Pi 5 is launching with a much improved SoC leading to significant performance gains. Additional improvements with the Raspberry Pi 5 make this a very nice generational upgrade.

The Raspberry Pi 5 is designed to deliver a 2~3x performance improvement over the Raspberry Pi 4. The Raspberry Pi 5 features a quad-core Cortex-A76 processor that clocks up to 2.4GHz, compared to the four Cortex-A72 cores found in the Raspberry Pi 4 that only clocked up to 1.8GHz. The graphics are also much-improved with now having an 800MHz VideoCore VII graphics processor over the VideoCore VI graphics with the Raspberry Pi 4. The Raspberry Pi 5 is capable of driving two 4K @ 60Hz displays and features 4K @ 60 HEVC decode hardware capabilities.

Also interesting with the Raspberry Pi 5 is that it features in-house silicon in the form of the RP1 "southbridge" used for much of the board's I/O capabilities. This southbridge should yield faster USB I/O along with other I/O bandwidth upgrades like a doubling of the peak SD card performance. The Raspberry Pi 5 also features a single-lane PCI Express 2.0 interface for improved connectivity.

The Raspberry Pi 5 is initially available in 4GB and 8GB varieties with the system memory being LPDDR4X-4267 SDRAM. The Raspberry Pi 5 also features 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0 / BLE, the usual microSD card slot. It's a bit unfortunate a 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 is not available today.

The Raspberry Pi 5 features two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 2 x 4-lane MIPI transcievers, PCIe 2.0 x1 via a M.2 HAT or other adapter, 5V DC power via USB-C, the classic Raspberry Pi 40-pin GPIO header, and the two micro HDMI outputs.

The Raspberry Pi 5 4GB board will cost $60 while the Raspberry Pi 5 8GB single board computer is $80, a $5 increase over the stock Raspberry Pi 4 pricing.

With the Raspberry Pi 4 a moderate passive heatsink or even active cooling is recommended. With Raspberry Pi 5, adequate cooling is even more important with the higher-clocked and faster Cortex-A76 cores.

Veoma bitna vest za dominaciju Linux-a:

Russia pivots to Chinese CPUs that aren't subject to US sanctions — Russia's homegrown Linux-based Alt OS now supports Chinese LoongArch chips

The Alt operating system developed by Moscow, Russia-based Basalt SPO has been recompiled to support Chinese Loongson processors based on the LoongArch architecture. Blacklisted Loongson has actively supported the porting process. The OS is available as a distro with a basic set of programs (Firefox, GIMP, LibreOffice) that can be installed on desktops, workstations, and servers. The company says the product is offered 'as is,' and its commercial distributives will be available later.

Alt is now the first Russian operating system capable of running on Loongson's processors based on the 64-bit LoongArch architecture, such as LS5000 and LS6000 series, which some in Russia consider alternatives to x86 CPUs from AMD and Intel. Recently, China lifted the export ban on Loongson's latest CPUs to Russia, which opened doors to using these processors in desktops, laptops, servers, storage equipment, and other applications.

The distro is based on the unstable, experimental branch of the Sisyphus project repository, which developers use to test new ideas and developments, including support for various processor architectures, reports CNews. The distro is available for download, but a stable release with LoongArch support is set for Q1 2024.
